Advanced Artists of Allendale is one of the newest and most promising programs.   Several inmate artists showcased their work to volunteers from the Book Club and through conversations with the men it became apparent that they had a deep commitment to developing their talents and sharing art through teaching others in Allendale.  This commitment to their artistic skills inspired volunteers along with some of the men to create the program. 

 

Participants are taking classes in many forms of art; sketching, watercolor painting, oil painting, pastels, and color theory to name a few. Through the support of Art League of Hilton Head and its members art materials and monies have been donated and teaching kits in the various disciplines have been put together.  Local and visiting artists will be coming to Allendale for guest instruction throughout 2019.

The work of several of the artists in the program will be the featured in a gallery showing in August at the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery. The name of the show is “Transcendence”. This show, and hopefully others in the future, will allow the artists to share the “transcendence” in their lives as a result of art and the other programs in the Character Restoration Initiative.
